Welcome to Interior Freedom Counseling! It’s my pleasure to embark on the healing journey with you. You’ve chosen the right place if you seek freedom from constraints in your heart. Together, let’s explore and embrace the path to inner harmony.
Anxiety is a common mental health condition characterized by excessive worry and fear. It can also manifest in physical symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, restlessness, trouble concentrating or digestive problems. Anxiety can significantly impact daily functioning and quality of life, but with proper support and treatment, it is manageable.
Phobias and panic attacks are common anxiety disorders that can be effectively treated with a variety of therapeutic approaches. Sufferers of panic disorder often experience their worlds becoming smaller and smaller. With the right interventions and support, individuals can learn to manage and overcome their fears, leading to a significant improvement in their overall well-being.
A clinical addiction refers to a dependency on behaviors or substances as a way to cope with and alleviate symptoms of mental health disorders. It can manifest as excessive engagement in activities such as gambling, shopping, or internet use, or reliance on drugs or alcohol. Addictions are maladaptive coping mechanisms, but can be protective of underlying wounded and fragmented parts of the self.
Clinical depression, also known as major depressive disorder, is a mood disorder that can be effectively treated with a range of therapies and interventions. With the right support and treatment, individuals can find relief from persistent feelings of sadness, regain interest in activities, and improve overall well-being.
Family problems can involve difficulties in communication, strained relationships, and a lack of understanding or support from family members. Additionally, financial issues, divorce/separation, parenting struggles or chronic illness and physical disabilities impact all the members of a family. There are treatments available to support families who struggle with their challenges.
I provide individual therapy and coaching for adults and adolescents (12-18 years), along with couples counseling and group therapy primarily using an Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy.
Understanding the human person as a beautiful, complex multiplicity through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens acknowledges that individuals consist of various modes or parts, each with its own thoughts, feelings, and experiences ie “inner critic” or “mama bear mode” or “my rebel part”. By exploring and integrating these parts in therapy, individuals can cultivate self-compassion, healing, and a greater sense of wholeness.
Depression, anxiety, and trauma can be interconnected in that experiencing traumatic events can contribute to the development of parts of ourselves stuck in certain protective/defensive modes, which is understandable. Trauma can be sustained from life-threatening events but not every person who experiences a catastrophic event is traumatized. Trauma is also likely after physical/sexual/emotional abuse or chronic physical/emotional neglect as it can severely disrupt one's sense of safety and well-being, leading to the onset of depressive symptoms and heightened anxiety.
Good family therapy can provide a safe and supportive environment for families to explore their dynamics, improve communication, and build healthier relationships. It offers opportunities to enhance understanding, clarify boundaries, promote resilience, and facilitate positive, lasting change for all family members involved.
